EP Validation and Unitary Membership Updates
Laos Joining EP Validation System
Laos has signed an agreement to join the EPO’s Validation system. Once it has entered into force, the agreement will streamline market access into Laos for European patent applicants, facilitating foreign direct investment, trade, and technology transfer.
Laos will be the EPO’s second validation partner from Southeast Asia and the sixth country signing a Validation Agreement with the EPO, after Morocco, Tunisia, Moldova, Cambodia, and Georgia. The EPO and Laos have yet to announce fees or a timeline for the implementation of the new system.
Romania joining the UPC
Romania ratified the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA) Law in April, paving the way for its becoming the 18th member state of the UPC Agreement this fall.
